hello recently ive tried to log in to ncsoft servers but im experiencing huge lags... i was thinking about getting an ssd drive on my laptop (it can use two hard drives) i was thinking about hosting my os on my old hhd and lineage on new ssd (small and cheap one like 30 or 60 gigs) is it worth trying? my laptop specs are intel p8400, 4 gigs of ddr3 and a geforce 9800gts 1gb. lineage is an old game so it should not be that dependent on cpu for example. i have a feeling that only hdd is slowing down since it always gets hot while playing lineage. should i buy an ssd? will it let me play without lags? mby some of u already have ssds in ur laptops? how do they perform on lineage?

from what i know you'll load just way faster (no blackscreens while porting etc, faster loading of textures) but the lag you might be experiencing can be on ncsofts servers tbh. they are all on "heavy" and shilen even crashes.

yes it makes a big difference, imo get a bigger ssd, 120gb and host os + l2 and other apps you use frequently. make sure to get a good quality one you dont wanna have it dying on you. ; )
make sure to have latest firmwares and such. :>

no its only because of my current hardware. i have 0 lags when there are no ppl around but as soon as i get into a crowded area fps drops instantly... its only because of my hardware (not the first server on which i would be experiencing that) im just curious is it worth buying it with my current laptop specs.

kuro1n thnx +1 for ssd. anyone else? :) my cpu is not one of the best im afraid that it will bottleneck my ssd but at least 30-40 fps on crowded towns and sieges would be awesome since now in talking island i get like 10

thats true ssd boost performance a lot and it's worth. check what read mb/s your disc have, you can do it by simply using hd tune pro. i have hd502hj on computer, its ~110mb/s average.
theres two types ssd, with sata-ii (around 250mb/s) and sata-iii (up to 600mb/s). you can also do raid0 it will be 220mb/s with two normal disc, but disc price went up about 250% more.
    for example:
ssd 64gb - sata iii around 380 pln
ssd 64gb - sata ii around 350 pln
    samsung hd502hj f3 500gb - 430 pln
    euro / pln = 4,3
    usd / pln = 3,3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbsqqepnod8 there u have a test with ssd in lineage 2, it will really give u boost.

i join on naia and on full details i had around 5fps (there was a lot of people at spawn) press alt+p and had around ~30. in instance i had ~90-120 on full details.

ssd might increase your fps by maybe a bit and reduce load times and movement in general, which is the most important here but it won't solve the "lag" (as you call it) issues. l2 is highly cpu intensive game and without a highly clocked (per core) cpu you won't do a thing. few .ini tweaks like cache and shadows disabled helps. sieges and mass pvps will suffer no matter what on that old, unoptimized engine.

it says that my laptop's hard drive average speed is 65mb/s which is sooo sad compared to urs and its ever more sad when u compare it to an ssd :d i think its really worth for me to buy it...

well my cpu is kinda slow but i dont think that it is that bad.

    cpu specs: http://ark.intel.com/products/35569/intel-core2-duo-processor-p8400-%283m-cache-2_26-ghz-1066-mhz-fsb%29

i still can play games like crysis 2 and skyrim on medium/high settings.

actually arcain you do get a fps increase because the engine is poorly coded for mmorpgs in such a large scale, i cant say exactly why this is but its something ive noticed myself when comparing ssd to normal disc. its a engine made for first person shooter games mainly so its to be expected though.

compared to other mmorpg engines it isn't that badly designed for large scale.

l2 is an old style game where there more clock you had on cpu the better it works. it barely uses more than 1 core. every new game, including crysis 2 is both highly gpu based and prepared to use even up to 4 cpu cores at once. crysis uses preety much everything it can, l2 fails here currently, plus, the shadows are badly implemented, doubt if it'll ever change.

that's why i wrote that it might speed it up by a bit, but it won't make suddenly 40-60fps on mass pvp when you had 10 previously. i'd even wish to have around 30 constantly during such events. it reduces a lot loading times and make movement possible without hickups right afrer login/port what is clearly shown on the movie few posts above, but that's preety much it and that's based on over a year and a half usage of ssd for l2.

if ssd, than watch for the reading speed. 2nd generation ssd drives starting at ~500 mb/sec reading speed, this is what you'll need to run l2 very smoothly. these are mostly cheap 80-120 gb ocz vertex 2 ones for a pc. but still if you need it for your laptop, just watch for the reading speed that i mentioned. ~200 mb/sec reading speed is the same that a sataii hdd can perform.

with the hardware of today, yes it is. they only have the network and sound on another core and if you run the game for a long time in a packed area you will notice that they game drops in fps constantly, i assume this come from using a fps engine in a mmorpg... a fps runs in shorter matches during the days this engine was made and then ended and everything could be reloaded and fresh in a mmorpg you can potentially be online for hours and hours and i guess it just adds to the load.

edit: be careful with vertex discs they are known to have problems (http://www.gadgetpolice.com/reviews...ailure-leading-to-an-rma-disk-replacement.php), intel has the lowest failrate on disks so you might want to look into that.

your laptop have e-sata its should be near usb or something.
there's way to buy some ssd disc with e-sata compatibility and connect with your laptop.
    for example:
ssd disc ocz vertex 2 120gb(~260mb read maximum) connected via sata-ii or eventually sata-iii reaches ~225mb/s
    on e-sata reaches ~160mb/s
    usb reaches ~ 30mb/s - n/c :d
    http://www.myce.com/review/eminent-...enclosures-review-40994/hd-tune-benchmarks-3/
i prefer to found some sata-iii with e-sata compatibility (if they exist) connect to laptop then later buy some computer.
but the best way is to buy brand new computer with sata-iii with high freq. on cpu, l2 dont really need expensive gpu 550ti would be enough.

    edit

    @up
i have reading about huge problems with intels.
ssd intel series 320 when u just setup or change password disc he will just stop respond or when there was a problem with power, all data disappear and disc decreases to 8mb !

sorry for my bad english! hope you understand what i want to say.

intel is the best for sure now at the market (also for speed) and im an intel fan, but isn't that cheap also.

aion is also using an fps engine which at it's days had preety high requirements yet it worked great for sieges, even without ssd. it can be done, that's for sure, but l2 is simply too old do switch to something newer, plus some locations are crappy designed so game load everything around, even if your char has no chance to see it. that was the major issue on hellbound with it's hourly memory cleanup making the whole game to freeze for even a minute. that's was also an issue in toi or gc when your framerate dropped drastically after some time.

so much ******** on few posts in this topic

ssd drive will only decrease loading time after teleport etc and u will not lose fps for few seconds after loading
in other situations ssd wont help at all
its not worth its price for l2
better replace ur cpu for a better one

do not listen to this guy above, he's obviously clueless, basically the best you can get is a ssd, cpu with high clock will aswell help but only for l2 since every other cpu even with lower clock but newer tech. will be better for everything else, unlike ssd which will improve your pc performance overall.
